"Blessings"
Im trying to figure out a balance, here. I saw something on Facebook that irritated me, so that's what I'm going to address.
I constantly hear "children are blessings!" Or "we're very blessed." Or if you know what Quiverful is, children are "God's Favor."
I don't buy it. I feel like it's insulting to those of us on the other side. Those of us who have LOST our babies before we could hold them, and those of us who can't have babies.
By saying those things, the implied opposite is that we are NOT in God's favor. That we dont deserve to be pregnant. We're not good enough, or pure enough, or Godly enough. It's saying that we're being punished.
It's beyond insulting.
Personally, I have enough of an issue blaming myself for this. And I think every person dealing with infertility does. We don't need anyone else adding to it.
Children are not earned by deeds or by faith. (And if you take in to consideration the drug moms, the crack heads, the prostitutes ect. magically have babies, that mind frame makes NO sense.)
I'm pretty sure that there is no rhyme or reason as to who gets pregnant & who doesn't. Because none of it makes sense.
(I should mention that this time of year is a terrible one for me. It usually starts around Easter, because that's when my mom would always get sick. As in hospital stay sick. And then Mothers Day. And then June 2nd which is the day that she died.) So, I'm especially sensitive right around now, a little but depressed, a little bit lonely & pretty sad for about a month.
